The ministry of serving at Mass is very special. A server has the opportunity to be physically and spiritually part of the sacrifice of the Mass.

BEREAVEMENT

Offers help to parishioners who have lost a family member. Some services include house sitting during funeral services, lunch prepared and served after the service, etc.

BIRTHRIGHT

 Hank Chardos                                      (781-4536)
Pro-life emergency pregnancy service, staffed by volunteers, offering alternatives to abortion. Services are free to clients and are confidential. Volunteers may serve in the office, donate maternity clothes and/or baby clothes, health care items, and/or help with fund-raisers.
Meetings: 3rd Thursday - alternate months
Expectations: office volunteers will serve 3 hours per week with another person.
Training: 4-part training for office volunteers.

CATECHUMEN PROGRAM

Classes cover a basic study of our Catholic faith for adults who wish to join the Catholic church or for Catholics who wish to learn more about their faith, sponsor a catechumen, or help teach a class(es).
Requirements: teachers and sponsors must be Confirmed adults.

CRISIS FUND

Established in memory of a parish member, funds are used to help those in the parish who are in emergency financial need. Funds are distributed confidentially at the discretion of the pastor.

CURSILLO

The purpose of the Cursillo movement is to bring about a change in the environment and to bring Jesus Christ into the world. Cursillistas (those who have gone through the 3 days and are still living the Cursillo method) become agents for change in their families, work places, neighborhoods, social gatherings, etc. Cursillitas become those in the Christian community who link together with others to bring about a positive change in the world.
Meetings: Ultreya - first Saturday of each month - 7:00 - 8:30 p.m.

DEVOTION TO THE SACRED HEART OF JESUS

Deacon DiRusso
Approximately one hour of prayer in devotion to the Sacred Heart. Prayer booklets are provided. The leader initiates the prayer with responses from the group.
Time: 7:30 p.m. - First Friday
Requirements: Each person should bring their Rosary.
 

DINNER CLUB

Couples meet once a month at a different members house with the host/hostess providing the main course and the other members bringing a side dish or dessert. A great way to get to know fellow parishioners in a relaxed environment.
 

EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS

(Coordinator for Ministers to the Sick and Homebound)
Each minister is expected to serve one Mass, approximately twice each month, with the exception of the Ministers to the Sick and Homebound who serve in an outreach capacity.
Training :1 orientation, 1 training meeting for all new ministers - 1 annual meeting for all ministers
Age: 18+

FINANCE COUNCIL

Responsible for establishing the parish budget and making recommendations to the pastor on financial issues.

HOMEWORKS

This program is for Catholic and other Christian youth to serve God by helping their neighbor. Teens and adults work with economically poor households to help create a better human dwelling by providing assistance with home repairs and improvements. This week-long program is ”Spirit-filled”, with prayer being an important element.

HOSPITALITY/WELCOME

This ministry encourages a welcoming family atmosphere. Letters are sent to new parishioners, followed by a phone call. A social event is held for newcomers each month and refreshments are served, in the Narthex, on the 3rd Sunday of each month to greet new members - photographs of new members are on display on a bulletin board during this Sunday.

J.O.Y. (Just Older Youth) GROUP

This group meets to socialize and share Christian beliefs with one another and the surrounding community. It is a relationship of people who realize that the experience and wisdom that comes with age are assets to the parish and community. The members live by the adage, ”If you rest you rust.”
Membership: 55+ female - interdenominational

KAIROS

This ministry is designed to win souls in prison to Christ.

Knights of Columbus

The Knights work in their Council, their parish, the community, and with youth. They raise money to support these efforts. They also help the mentally challenged through their annual Tootsie Roll Drive.
Membership: practicing Catholic males 18+ years (see Squires)
Dues: $50.00 per annum

LADIES’ AUXILIARY (K of C)

This group assists K of C Council #6892 with a variety of fund-raisers, social activities and parish functions. They also volunteer with youth groups on occasion.
Age: 25+
Membership: women whose husbands are active, retired, or deceased Knights of Columbus.
Meetings: 2nd Monday of each month
Dues: $10.00 per year

LECTORS

Lectors proclaim the Word of God at Masses and other liturgical celebrations.
Age: Middle-school through adult

Legion of Mary
Mary Limpert                                       
This spiritually grounded group fosters devotion to Mary by doing good works in her name for the glory of God. These works may include visiting the sick at home or in the hospital, evangelization, working in religious education, etc.
Meeting: each Wed. at 7:00 p.m.
Membership: open to all (must attend 12 consecutive meetings)
Requirements: 2 hours of ministry per week, prayer, membership requirement as listed above

MARRIAGE ENCOUNTER

Marriage Encounter is a totally private, retreat type weekend for the enhance ment of good marriages, with ongoing communal support after the initial weekend is completed.

OLH Men's Group

The Men's Group meets once a month for fellowship and discussions on a different subject each month to help discover where we are on our Faith Journey. We are all at different places in our lives and the discussions help us to see others who have gone along the same path. Afterwards, there is social and recreation time using the basketball court, playing cards or just talking with others. Snacks are provided.


MEN’S BASKETBALL

Opportunities: need 3-4 new players each year

League play that includes communication and fellowship with other churches.

MISSION TITHE

As part of commitment of a tithing parish, this group meets to plan and decide which charities will receive funds and when.

MUSIC COMMITTEES

Joyful Noise Choir

This choir sings and praises the Lord through song at Masses, to the homebound and those in nursing homes.
Age: 15+
Practice: Wednesday - 7:30 - 9:00 p.m. and Saturday - 4:30 p.m. prior to Mass

Traditional Choir

This choir, divided into 4 voice parts, consists of people who love music and enjoy the tasks of learning and honing their skills in order to enhance the liturgy. Their goals are to inspire devotion through music, as well as encourage the congregation to sing.
Practice: 6:30 - 8:00 p.m.- Tuesdays - choir sings at 10:00 a.m Mass each Sunday

PASTORAL COUNCIL

This Council serves as the visionary group for the parish and acts as a consultative group with the pastor to show sensitivity to parish needs, to form a link between the pastor and the parish community, and to foster pastoral activities between and among parish ministries.

Requirements: must be registered member of Our Lady of the Hills Parish
Membership: through discernment process
Meetings: 4th Tuesday each month

PRAYER LINE

Prayer petitions and needs are relayed to an extended network of people who pray for those particular petitions and needs.
 
PRISON MINISTRY                           (772-7400)

Each week several correctional institutions for men and women are visited to respond to the Lord's invitation, " I was in prison and you visited me." ( Matt. 25:35-36) These visits include a communion service and catechesis. Various times during the week are available to help with this most rewarding ministry.

RESPECT LIFE

This group shares information on all Respect Life issues. they place respect life notes in the Sunday bulletin, host a monthly Respect Life Mass, and invite a special guest to speak annually.

ROSARY

Dedicated to special devotion to the Blessed Mother. Activities include attendance at 1st Saturday devotions and special feast days honoring Mary. People may also ask to host a statue of Our Lady of Fatima (blessed in Fatima) in their homes for a month.

As of 6/9/97, this group dedicated to providing rosaries to anyone in need, has assembled and donated approximately 40,000 rosaries throughout the parish, the diocese and to overseas missions.
Volunteers: anyone from 6-80+ needed to assemble rosaries, either in a group or at home.

Meetings: alternate Saturdays from 2:00 - 5:00 p.m

ST. VINCENT DE PAUL SOCIETY

S.V.D.P. is made up of volunteer lay parishioners who seek to live the Gospel through ministering to those in need, they are also involved in several projects throughout the year.

GIRL SCOUTS

Girl Scouting offers girls fun and creative opportunities in an informal setting. A Girl Scout learns about her community, the world, and herself as well as developing leadership ski11s.
Age: scout: K through 12th grade; volunteer: 18+
Meeting weekly - Monday - 6:30 - 7:30 p.m.
Dues: registration fees and dues paid annually

SCRIPTURE STUDY

This group studies and discusses the readings for the following Sunday in order to be properly prepared for Mass, to recognize how God works in our lives, our community, and the world.

Meetings: Weekly – Wednesday morning - 10:00 - 11:30 a.m.

Little Rock

This group uses video, commentary and workbook from the Little rock Scripture Study. The group studies, discusses current Book(s) of the Bible. A video is then presented on the major points covered by the current lesson.
Age: 18+
Meetings: weekly (during Religious Ed) 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. Wednesday and 6:30 - 8:30 PM Sunday Evening.
Cost: minimal donation to cover the cost of the materials

Ushers serve as ministers of hospitality greeting parishioners as they inter the church, answer questions, and ready the church for Mass. they also assist in seating people, take up the offertory, insure that the gifts are brought to the altar, pass out the parish bulletin after Mass, and close up the church as needed.

This group’s activities include coordinating the Christmas Giving Tree and the serving of soup after Stations of the Cross during Lent. They also serve dinner to the student at the St. Thomas More Center at USC.
