SACRAMENTAL PREPARATION

INFANT BAPTISMS

Parents must attend a Baptism Class. This class is held the 2nd Thursday of the month in the Library of the Family Life Center at 7 p.m.   You must call the office to register for the class and to arrange for the Baptism.  Baptisms may be held within the Sunday liturgy or after Mass based on the availability of a Deacon.

First Reconciliation (Penance)

First Eucharist (Communion)

Our Lady of the Hills Catholic Church is committed to family-centered Religious Education.  This means that in conjunction with your child’s regular Religious Education class, the child’s family is expected to be actively involved in teaching and providing their child with additional spiritual activities (i.e. Mass, sacraments).  As parents you brought your child to Baptism, now you will continue to assist your child in receiving the many graces available through the sacraments of Reconciliation, Eucharist and Confirmation.

First Reconciliation and Penance

First Eucharist (Communion)

First Reconciliation (Penance)

First Reconciliation is offered to students age 7 (second grade) and older.   The following guidelines are to help ensure thorough and appropriate preparation of your children for the sacraments:

·         Youth must be baptized Catholic & registered in parish

·         Student must be registered in regular Religious Education classes or attending a parochial school program.

·         Student must have been enrolled in a parish Religious Education program or parochial school program for at least one year.

·         Parents must attend the Parent meeting.

In early October a meeting is scheduled for all parents who wish their child to begin preparation for First Reconciliation.   In an effort to support the family and to reinforce what is being taught at home the Religious Education classes will also be focusing on forgiveness and reconciliation for several weeks.   Youth must be in attendance and complete the home materials before they are presented for the Sacrament. Children celebrating their 1st reconciliation may do so on the pre-set dates or they may attend the Parish Communal Penance Services.

1st Eucharist (Communion)

First Eucharist is offered to students age 7 (second grade) and older.   The following guidelines are to help ensure thorough and appropriate preparation of your children for the sacraments:

·         Youth must be baptized Catholic & registered in parish

·         Youth must be registered in regular Religious Education classes (Sunday or Wednesday) or attending a parochial school program.

·         Youth must have been enrolled in a parish Religious Education program or parochial school program for at least one year (2002-2003)

·         Parents must attend a Parent meeting.

·         Children should have received the Sacrament of Reconciliation.

Parent meetings are scheduled in January. You only need to attend one meeting.  As stated previously, the parent is the primary teacher of the faith and as such is responsible for preparing their child for the Sacrament.  To reinforce what is being taught at home, the Religious Education 2nd grade curriculum focuses on Eucharist.   Once the parents attend the parent meeting and receive the home materials, your child’s preparation will begin.  Families may choose to participate in a Multi-Family celebration of First Eucharist or they may select an individual date.  Multi-Family celebrations are held in the spring.
